Bio:
Mamoru was born as the youngest child of three to a Japanese Mother and a German father,
both working for Toyota a known Japanese car
producer. Though the couple intended to stay in Japan forever and therefor gave
Japanese names to their children for easier integration, Mamoru’s father got
offered a generous promotion that, however, required him to move back to
Germany when his youngest son was about to enter the 2nd grade of
elementary school . Needing the money but unwilling to part, the family made
the difficult decision of leaving behind their home and start a new life in
Europe. Unlike his older siblings, Mamoru had large difficulties getting used
to this new situation. A naturally shy child, his exotic looks and name, heavy
accent and an unnatural growth sprout for a boy his age made it nearly
impossible for him to make friends with the local kids during the first few
months. It wasn’t until he joined a football club that the situation
drastically started to improve for him.  Fast
and athletic, he made a great addition to the team and soon became one of the
top players. All of a sudden, he was popular and people formerly ignoring or
marking fun of him got into fights claiming to be his best friends.  Intimidated by the unexpected attention,
Mamoru would grin and bear it, though never really letting any of his so called
new “friends” close.

Barely making it into grammar school, Mamoru lost all contact to his elementary school
acquaintances.  His vastly improved
German and newly gained confidence from his athletic achievements emphasized
his friendly and open nature, gaining him a stainless reputation with both teachers
and students alike. Although just mediocre in his studies, the following three
years developed to be rather enjoyable for him.  In grade 8th, however,  his sister, whom he was closest to in his
family, moved back to Japan in order to study there and caused him to become
less  social and rather listless.  Spending most of his time alone in his room,
he stopped coming to football practice and eventually ditched the club for
good. His schedule half as packed now, he could concentrate on school more and
his grades gradually started to improve.

Due to the unexpectedly good grades in his Abitur (A-levels) his parents
agreed on fulfilling a dream of his and financed a 6 month long trip to
Japan that he spend with his sister
who had recently gotten a job as a lawyer. Struck by nostalgia and love towards
his former home country, Mamoru came to a ludicrous decision: Like his sister,
he wanted to attend university in Japan.

Though his parents didn’t agree at first, he managed to convince them with his
sister’s help and soon started his education - more thrilled for it
than ever before.

Personality:
Dreamer would be the most fitting term if he was to be described with one word. Though
he doesn’t look it, Mamoru’s inner life is lively and full of imagination.
Paired with a lack of confidence and a downright desperation to fit in with the
others, he doesn’t dare to display it openly in fear that he won’t be accepted
the way he is. The want to please his surroundings often is much stronger than
the want to do what he wants and/or is best for him. (e.g. though he was good
at football, he only did it to gain recognition from his parents and stand up
to his siblings who both were far superior in academic matters.)

In contact with others, Mamoru is overly friendly, and considerate – though also reserved.
It’s difficult to say if he likes someone or not, since he treats all people the
same – regardless of how they treat him. If made fun of or ridiculed, he is
likely to grin and laugh along, even if his feeling are deeply hurt. If people
don’t like him, he blames it on himself and his inability to fit in. Because of
this, he is rather prone to being used and abused by others without even
noticing it.

Trivia:

- His spoken Japanese has a funny accent and his writing looks like a middle schooler’s.

-Currently lives with his sister and her boyfriend. Though they don’t oppose it at all, he’s
looking for another place to stay since he doesn’t want to disturb them.

-Since his sister and him are rather close and he looks older than his age anyway, they
often get mistaken for a couple.

-Due to his distinctive hair color, gullible personality and a pun on their family name,
his sister early on started calling him “tanuki” ([link].
People usually male think it’s referring to the
size of his…balls. It makes him really embarrassed.

-Mamoru is rather…accident prone, to say the least. He’s somewhat clumsy and awkward and
often runs into things or knocks stuff over.

-Recently picked up sports again and is doing boxing now. The training isn't at
all as rigurous as his football one used to be so he enjoys it.
